21 Savage is the star of Louis Vuitton’s Summer 2021 capsule collection campaign. Shot on location in Venice Beach, the American rapper models in front of a gradient of pastel-hued skies. It’s an appropriate setting for the transitional collection, which sees watercolours wash across cotton sweatshirts, denim shirts, and nylon windbreakers.
Watercolours are a fitting motif for Virgil Abloh’s latest collection. According to Louis Vuitton, summer is a “[colourful], lively season, galvanized by creative youth, lovers of freedom and comfort, driven by their sunny mood and the vital movement of the ocean.” Appropriately, bright pinks and blues bleed unfettered across the collection’s pieces. And much like how the boundary between day and night seems to dissolve during summer, watercolours blur the edges of the iconic Louis Vuitton Monogram.
The summer collection is also Louis Vuitton’s latest sustainability effort. The collection, for example, uses responsibly sourced cottons and wools, along with recycled nylons. Even its colour palette avoids the use of chlorine and metals.
