The success of this year’s Emmys (or Pandemmys) hinged not on its usual red carpet fanfare but rather a stable WiFi connection. And the show delivered: The ever-affable Jimmy Kimmel made you forget that he was hosting from an empty theatre in Los Angeles, and the night went off without a hitch (and with a mini Friends reunion).
Now, for the highlights. History was made when Zendaya became the youngest lead drama actress to win an Emmy for Euphoria, the neon-lit romp through contemporary teendom, and Schitt’s Creek, the little Canadian show that could, swept all the major categories. But that didn’t stop Kimmel from dunking on us for losing out on a different trophy.
The show may have been virtual, but Hollywood’s leading men didn’t disappoint with their Zoom style. Here’s our list of best-dressed men from Emmys 2020.
YAHYA ABDUL-MATEEN II
The Yale-bred actor won for Watchmen, but stole focus with his statement-making high-contrast pinstripe suit for the occasion. How’s that for a WFH fit?
PAUL MESCAL
If you haven’t read Normal People yet, congratulations! You’re the last one on Earth. Mescal (pronounced like the drink) is the breakout star of the TV adaptation of Sally Rooney’s best-selling book about a particularly poignant and drawn-out love affair. Here he is looking anything but normal in a navy double-breasted suit from Virgil Abloh’s Louis Vuitton.
The 28-year-old Broadway star and Emmy-nominated newcomer from Netflix’s Hollywood officiallybecame a style star last night in a Louis Vuitton checkerboard-style, three-button suit in shades of brown – the colour of the season – complete with heeled boots. EUGENE LEVY https://www.instagram.com/p/CFYGjjQjpSQ/ Canada’s favourite funnyman and big-time winner looked extra dapper in a blue double-breasted suit and jet-black shirt from Kim Jones’s Dior.
